KANOH SHOUKOKU III

It has been over 100 years since the founder, Kenichi, left Awaji Island.
Among the famous Kyoto ware kilns that have been passed down for generations,

this is one of the few kilns that has long been loved by skilled users and is said to be

“still capable of producing modern-day” tableware that supports the sophistication of Kyoto cuisine.


1948 Born as the eldest son of the second Shoukoku
1971 Graduated from the Department of Ceramics, Faculty of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts
1973 Studied under the sixth Kiyomizu Rokubei
1974 Awarded the Grand Prix Honorary Prize at the Vallauris International Ceramic Exhibition, France, Vallauris Museum Collection
1978 Selected Prize at the Kyoto Prefectural Exhibition, purchased by Kyoto Prefecture
1979 Became a founding member of the Nihon Shinkougei Association
         Received the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award by China-Japan International Ceramic Exhibition
         Invited to exhibit at the Florence International Ceramic Exhibition
1983 Purchased by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Nihon Shinkougei Exhibition (also purchased in 2000 and 2001)
1988 Invited to exhibit at the Nihon Shinkougei Exhibition in Australia and traveled to Australia as an executive committee member
1990 Special Prize at the Nitten Exhibition “Rei” (Collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto)
         Built a climbing kiln in Minamiyamashiro Village, Kyoto Prefecture
1998 Special Prize at the Nitten Exhibition “Kyou” (Collection of Kyoto City) Collection of Kyocera Museum of Art
2000 Takes on the name of Shoukoku III, held succession exhibitions in various locations in Japan
2006 Becomes a member of the Nitten Exhibition
2007 Nitten Exhibition Member Award “Suiteki”
2010 Three-person exhibition with Amano Yoshitaka and Yumemakura Baku at the Shanghai World Financial Center in China
2011 Nihon Shinkougei Exhibition, Prime Minister’s Award “Genka” and 2022 “Sekisui”
2014 Held an exhibition to commemorate his retirement from Kyoto City University of Arts
2015 Received the 33rd Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Award Achievement Award
2018 Exhibition with Amano Yoshitaka and Yumemakura Baku at Takashimaya Osaka, Kyoto, and Shinjuku
202053 Stations of the Tōkaidō Tea Bowl Completion Commemorative Exhibition” held at Nomura Museum of Art
2024 Nitten Tokyo Governor’s Award “Reiko”
